5 DAY FESTIVAL CELEBRATING THE ART FORMS OF NORTH EAST INDIA TO BEGIN FROM TOMORROW AT JKK
Jaipur, 25 March: Over 200 folk artistes from as many as 8 states of North East India will perform in the 5 day cultural programme and exhibition – 'Octave 2019'. The programme will begin tomorrow at Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) from 7 pm onwards. This was informed by Additional Director General (ADG), JKK, Mr. Furqan Khan today at a media briefing. He further said that the objective of the event is to educate the people about different forms of art and culture of geographically distant areas. Also present at the media briefing were Programme Officers, North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, Mr. Jarnail Singh and Mr. Rajesh Bassi.
The ADG also added that a major attraction of 'Octave 2019' will be a handicrafts exhibition of North East in which around 30 stalls of 60 artisans will be put up. The handicrafts, including dry flowers, decorative and daily use jute products, bamboo and can items and artificial jewellery will be on display as well as sale. It will remain open daily for the duration of the festival from 3 pm onwards.
Around 20 art forms from 8 States of North-Eastern India like – Rikam Pada and Beh-Du (Arunachal Pradesh); Bihu, Bardoi Shikhla, Bhortal and Shatriya (Assam), Pung Cholam/Dhol Cholam, Manipur Raas, Chirol Jagoi and Thangta (Manipur); Hoko and Ka-Shad-Mastie (Meghalaya); Hozagiri and Sangrai Mog (Tripura); Cheraw and Khullam (Mizoram); Khupielili (Nagaland); Tang Shello and Singhi Chaam (Sikkim) will be the highlight of the programme. These cultural performances will be present on all five days of the festival from 6.30 pm onwards.
It is to be recalled that the programme is being organized jointly by JKK and the North Zone Cultural Center, Patiala, under the Ministry of Culture's Octave Scheme.
